What To Wear
The Accessories Edition: Scarves!
You put on your favorite designer jeans and paired it with a great top. Now, there is one more very important step: It's time to accessorize.
Jewelry, belts, scarves and handbags, all fall under this category. Accessories can make a fairly simple outfit as unique and interesting as you are. You can find retailers selling these items for very little money. Some stores have famous names designing lower priced lines that are very affordable. Take advantage of this... you don't have to make a huge investment to add some fun and variety to your outfits.
Scarves are hugely popular right now. Whether it is a brocade pashmina, wool plaid, or printed silk, scarves are being worn for fashion as well as for warmth. Recently back from New York City's Coterie Fashion Event, I can tell you, that, you will see all types of scarves worn right into spring. There are some great cotton, crinkle scarves in colorful patterns that are worn wrapped around the neck multiple times with a simple sweater, or with a jean jacket and t-shirt. I love the ones that are tie-dye or have a little lurex thread running through for some "bling".
A wrap or pashmina (usually means cashmere and silk blend) adds a new dimension to a basic dress or outfit while also adding warmth if you are traveling or work in a cold office. You will look chic and professional every step of the way.
Here's what I suggest:
*Take your grey or camel coat up a notch by adding a cashmere or blended wool scarf in a bright, fun and colorful pattern.
*An animal print always adds a touch of style. I haven't seen many I don't like, so take a leap and choose something a little crazy. Wear it around your neck, around your waist, or through your belt loops as a home-made belt.
*Wear a smaller silk print around your wrist as a bracelet, or in your hair as a headband.
Whatever you choose, just be confident when you wear it. If you are at all like me, I often choose from one pair of black pants or another when getting dressed. Adding a bit of color can be a welcomed spark of excitement.
For a few helpful hints, and a little entertainment, Google: "How to tie a scarf". You will find a huge number of You Tube videos showing you some simple, everyday ways to wear your new scarf. (You'll also notice they will let just about anybody put a video on the Internet.)
Watch, learn, laugh and enjoy. Look for other hints in a future Accessories Edition of "What To Wear" coming soon.
